Rag Wreath from Old Blue Jeans-DIY

Up-cycled Blue Jeans

I am ready to roll into lighter decorations and a little whimsy as well.
This Rag Wreath from a pair of old pair of blue jeans was just the DIY project I was looking for.
This is one of those no brainer kind of projects. There's really no skill required and is super simple.

You could purchase a wreath form of some kind but I hate to buy things I can just reuse. Reusing something that otherwise would be tossed out is the name of my game.
"Making Something outta of Nothing"
This wreath is very tight and dry; I'm just going to remove any dangling pieces and anything that's sticking out.

I used the legs of these jean. I simply cut the thick edge off and the cut narrow strips out of both legs
and started tying them onto the wreath. I wanted another fabric just to break up all the blue and this scrap piece of pink gingham did the trip for me.
Just keep tying and turning your knots to suit the look you want.

Thanks so much for popping over for a visit.
Be Blessed!

Re-upholstering the Desk Chair-DIY

A few weeks ago, I wrote about working on those projects I had been pushing to the back-burner. Well, today I finally can check off redoing our desk chair. With the Chuck Wagon Gang tuned in I made my chair over, strolled down memory lane and almost had a prayer meeting at the same time....
the Chuck Wagon Gang will do that for ya...
The chair is about 10 years old. I had purchased the chair at our local Lowe's Home Improvement Store. I liked the classic styling of the chair and I was happy to see it carried the Basset Furniture label, which is or maybe I should say was a company just over in the next county that many folks in this area worked for. speaking of Basset Furniture Company I would be a lie to say if they are even in operation in the U.S. at all.
With ten years of many rough and rowdy kids and just simply,a many a behinds spending ours sitting in it the poor chair looked worse than rough. It had reached the point of shame.
Do ya see??
I'm ashamed..I'm ashamed...
The chair is still very sturdy except the arms had a little waggle in them so I was surely going to tighten everything up while I was at it. I had almost given hope of finding an
allen wrench
to fit but as luck would have it after a little digging through the junk draw, I was in business.
I removed the seat. I decided to give it a light sanding and put a coat of polyurethane with a little bit of stain on the chair as well. I might be the only one but I kind of liked the wear in the wood on the chair so I thought not to really cover it up. I just cleaned it up and gave it some protection.
Here you can see Roscoe trying to be my helper.
Do you wonder what he's helping me do?
He's eating some crumbs that flung out of the chair cushion.
All-in-all, I feel pleased with the end results.

I want to thank you for stopping by.
If you're feeling like you want to go to Prayer Meeting
give a listen and most of all
BE BLESSED!

19 Days

I'm counting it down.
Are you?
For me, it's a little here and a little there. I enjoy the building in to the decorations and I like to see everyone's expressions as they come home from school or work.
It's makes every day a little more special for me.
Today, I've put together a little winter arrangement made from
an old pickle jar, a bed spring,  and a old Pepsi bottle.

Who out there remembers
when PEPSI came in a bottle like this?

Now that will tell your age....

I wanted a wooden tray to display my arrangement in
but
with Christmas just around the corner
I'm not thinking to spend money on
that right now
so here goes..
Strawberry flat & some spray paint,
I hope this comes out like I'm hoping.

Do you need some snow?
A bar of Ivory Soap & a grater
You've got it!
I think I like it. I also think it needs some more greenery.
That tends to be my fix for a lot of things.

You know I needed more wreathes.
One for the mirror

One above the kitchen counter.
It doesn't show as well in the picture
but
I've used more
chicken wire & chippy bulbs.

That's it for today.
I'm ready for another cup of coffee.
Thanks for stopping by.
BE BLESSED!

Jack and All His Friends

Well...No Silly!
Not my Jack,
Jack-o-lantern.

We've been getting a little more DIY going on around here.
Isn't it great when it's simple and cheap.
Wash-up & de-label some empty soda bottles
&
get you spray paint out.
Didn't I tell you I am no artist?
My first one I used way to heavy a hand.
After him, I sprayed much lighter and some I used a permanent marker on.
Yes, we stuck some here there....and everywhere.

I was out of bottles and we still wanted more,
so an old Maxwell House coffee jug work out.
Here's looking at ya!
Be Blessed!

Putting Up Scarecrow Fred

I could barely wait for Jack to get home from school
so we could get Fred, our scarecrow put out.

I thought we would have gotten him together over the weekend but rainy weather put a damper on most things this weekend. I must seem to be running behind the rest of the world when it comes to decorating but it is typical for us to get in the real feel of Autumn and Halloween about a week before and then we tend to roll with that until Thanksgiving.(I hate to be rushed through my holidays)
We're also more geared toward a harvesting theme over the Ghouls & Ghost
 but..
We'll be throwing in a little spookiness for our annual Monster Mash party that my sister helps me put on for our little band of  monster(kids).

This is how we started out with Fred.
A pair of my worn out bibs and button up shirt will serve as our scarecrows body.
Jack kept asking if he was going to be a boy or a girl.
Last year Fred should have been Fredricka due to the hat we chose but I told him it would surely be a boy.

I initially thought to get some burlap for the head but apparently the price of burlap is on the rise in Patrick County so we went with
this cheaper cotton.
This isn't a very clear picture but I basically made a sack.
Folding it in have sewed the seams on both sides
and then
I base stitched about 3 inches from each side seam allowing us to stuff the head and then draw it up.
We just used some old pieces of planks we had laying around nailed together for a frame.
We had already decided we were going to set him in an old chair we found in the edge of the woods so we went with shorter boards;
if you plan to stand him up longer boards would most likely work better.

Now your ready....
Stuff, stuff and keep stuffing.
We used some straw.
then
We sat him in his chair and put on his hat.
Once I gather some pumpkins around him I'm sure
Fred will be very pleased.
Thanks for stopping by.
BE BLESSED
and
Be a Blessing!

Scarecrow Saturday

Yes, We've finally got our ole friend out for the season. This has been our project for today.
Here's what we started with.
My old bibs, flannel shirt, and my hat I thought
I had to have but have never worn.
Okay....Let's wear it.

I'm terribly cheap and hate to waste money if I have something
that can work but I did purchase some burlap for the head.
Last year we used an ole panty hose for the head.
I think the burlap will work a little better.
We tied knots in the legs of the pants and arm of the shirt.
We've decided to stuff it with pine cones. I know that sounds
a little crazy but last year we stuffed with straw and when it
rained everything was really slouchy. This time we'll be stiff
and sticky.

We also just safety pinned most of everything together. We thought he'd
be on a stick but it didn't work out so we used a cinder block and set him
on a stump.
All in all, we liked the way he turned out. Jack parked his John Deere
wagon with some corn stalks and a pumpkin next to him. Now the only
thing to figure out is what's his name. Jack wanted him to be called
Jack. Alisha wanted her to be called Becky. I keep calling him Fred
since that was his name last year.
Fred was a little on the skinny side.
He's put on a little weight this year.
Jud don't know what to think.
There you go, one more do-it yourself,
go by the seat of your pants
Saturday Scarecrow Project.
